Brian purchased Casa de Brian in 2018 with the intention of flipping it in three months. He lived in it for eight. During that time, work completed included one accent wall (the color is described in the listing as "terracotta" and by everyone else as "the inside of a pumpkin"), a new mailbox, and a pergola.
Brian left when the pergola settled. He has described this departure as "strategic." Brenda has described it as "Brian left in the night." Both accounts agree that he has not been back. The pergola's current structural status is unknown. Brian says it's fine. He has not seen it since 2019.
The property has been on the market since listing. Several viewings have taken place. Feedback has been consistent. Brian has reviewed the feedback. He disagrees with most of it. He has kept all of it in the unlabeled box under his desk, alongside the tax notices for The Sunrise Project.
Prospective buyers have noted, during viewings, a smell in the master bedroom that one viewer described as "ambitious" and another described as "a decision was made in here." Brian has been informed of this. Brian's response was: "That is not from me."
There are also three stains. One is in the kitchen, one is on the landing, and one is on the ceiling of the second bathroom, which raises questions Brian has declined to answer. Brian's position on all three stains is that they were pre-existing and that he noticed them when he moved in. Brenda has pointed out that Brian owned the property before he moved in. Brian has chosen to move on.
The smell in the second bedroom is different from the smell in the master bedroom. Brian says that one is also not from him. He has not elaborated. Dave asked a follow-up question. Brian told him it was not relevant to the listing.
"What is that smell in the master."
"The stain on the ceiling is load-bearing in my nightmares now."
"I liked the mailbox."
"This is a beautiful home with a lot of character. The smells are pre-existing. The stains are pre-existing. The pergola is fine. The mailbox is genuinely excellent and I stand by it. The feedback from viewings has been largely negative but those people were not the right buyers. The right buyer will understand the vision. The vision is the mailbox."
